Goldtone/Orotone
Curtis perfected this painstaking process, customizing it by renaming
his prints Curt-tones, although the common term used today is goldtone.
The image is printed in reverse on a sheet of glass, then backed
with a viscous mixture of powdered gold pigment and banana oil.
Ornately molded and gilded frames were provided by the Curtis studio
to protect the delicate images.
